I'm not the first one to get it either- someone else got it last weekend, but they haven't posted about it yet, so I won't say who. Anyway, I'm not too far in, but it's pretty good so far! The Baby is spelled with a capital B, there's all sorts of Rider coolness going on- and on page 16, lines 10-11, is the word INSIPID!!! Whoo hoo! Awesome, awesome, AWESOME so far! Except... You know that paragraph that reveals Tate as a lesbian? Gone. All of it. It's reduced to: "Tate had no idea why[she wanted to help Tamara]. But she was driven." Ugh. More later, after I'm done.

Well since I got nothing better to do, I'm gonna go and see if they have it yet. Please let them have it cause I don't want to go wait at the bus stop for 10 mins and take 20 mins to get there just to find out that they don't have it. And the ride back takes longer, too. Well at least its SF MUNI which is probably the fastest out there. EDIT: That was a waste of time. B&N said that it won't be in till the 17th. That's an hour that I will never get back. I lost my fast pass on the way and had to walk the 3 miles back. I'm pissed now. Thats right. Go ahead and laugh at my misfortune.

I'll wait until more people have the book to say more about that, but I will say that it provides the answer to that age-old question: "Where do Babies come from?" As well as the less popular "How the heck is Billy Weir psychic?" Just a note: the battle scene at the end felt lot like the end of the Hobbit, with all of the forces converging for one final battle. Very cool. Also, the One's identity was revealed! It's Yago! Ha ha ha! All this time we thought it was the power higher than Crayak, or the voice from the end of #41- or both! But it turns out that it was a 15 year old with green hair the WHOLE TIME! How did I not see it? (Note: To anyone who took that seriously, yes Yago does refer to himself as the One, but no, he is not the Animorphs One. No connection) Only one thing irks me, and it's not even about #7- it's the #8 sample chapter... SPOILERS! Scroll down to read, or just hit the "Back" button - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How is it possible that Earth could still be inhabited. Now, I'm just a high school student who hasn't even graduated from sophomore year biology yet (NEXT WEEK!), but it occurs to me that when a planet is hit with an asteroid 76 miles long, and the ocean spills into the core, causing it to explode and tear the planet apart- it's always been my belief that after that, it's not inhabitable. It's not like the chunks of Earth that remained were wrapped in oxygen bubbles- they wouldn't have any atmosphere at all! Much less anything still living on them, with the exception of cockroaches. And it definately wouldn't have developed an atmosphere by now, that takes a long time- much longer than 500 years. But even, by some unlikely chance, they are able to land on it and get out without being popped in the vacuum of space, won't it just be a big, charred rock? If they really want a home, they should try some place inhabitable- like another planet, or even the ship, now that Billy's in control. It just doesn't make any sense. Also, should I assume from what the sample chapter said, that the Missing Eight are no longer on the ship?

It's a race against the clock, each other, and forces beyond human comprehension. It's a race the humans might not even be capable of winning. and then there's the summary from the OS: Three groups race to gain control of the ship and Mother the ships power source and the Remnants only chance to create a new Earth. Its a race against the clock, each other, and forces beyond human comprehension, all leading to the ultimate face-off between Billy and the Babys true form. Will the Baby prove indestructible? And woah, Tate's a lesbian???

The Squids being what they are (I won't say for fear of spoiling those who are seeking to be spoiled!) actually wasn't decided until the outline was being written -- it's "retroactive continuity," as it were, looking back at something written earlier and figuring a new way to portray it while still having it make sense. I am disappointed to hear about Tate, though. Oh well. Once I read the book I'll post all the scenes that were cut. I figured Scholastic would decide it too controversial for a mid grade series. As for #8, I haven't read the book yet so I have no idea what it says, but the whole idea was that SPOILER FOR #8 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jobs found a planet similar to Earth that seemed to have merged with its own moon, and that it had a very thin atmosphere. The discovery of this planet causes some new conflict in the group -- especially now that Yago 2.0 is on the scene with his shiny, new messiah complex (just wait 'til you see what comes next with that!). Now, the Twin Planet (which is what I always called it, though I doubt anyone else will refer to it as such) may be Earth, but it also may not be. I actually have no idea -- I only know up to #9, remember. So the plausibility of whether Earth somehow survived and collided with the moon to form a new type of planet is kind of a moot point this early. As for the missing eight, well, who knows? I can tell you that at least SOME are still on the ship. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . END SPOILER FOR #8 So, how 'bout we make a spoiler thread for #8 and you type up that sample chapter

According to Jeff, however, her character wasn't fully thought out until #3 and the #7 outline were written. Then, since she became a much more mature character, her age was changed to 16, going on 17, although it is never mentioned in the books. Anyway, on to #3. This is where Tate gets her first major role. She's described by Yago as being a "tough looking chick" early on. Later, however, we get a full description: *Quote:* Tate was African-American, short, decidedly feminine, the polar opposite of Tamara. She had a shaved head except for a spray of dreadlocks at the back, a knotted ponytail that hung to her midback. In the original manuscript, Yago notes that it is a gay hair statement, but that, of course, was removed from the final version. She is also described in #4 as having dark eyes and a nice smile. Anyway, we learn that Tate is indeed tough, and independent. She is the only Remnant who opposes feeding anyone to the Baby, showing that she is also one of the more moral Remnants. In #4, Tate has her biggest role, until #7. An entire chapter is spent on her having a conversation with Mo'Steel ("Goodnight, Beulah"), revealing her theory about Tamara/the Baby, and sort of freaking Mo out. She also shows great admiration for Tamara, even confiding to 2Face, while inside a Blimp, " She is fine." In #5 and 6, she has pretty minor roles, doing little more than helping out and, in #6, questioning Yago's leadership. In #7 she has a very large role, which I will not go into detail about now, since that would spoil the book. But in #7, the reason she wants to free Tamara so badly is revealed: Tate is a lesbian, and she has fallen for Tamara. Once again, this was taken out of the final version.
